Rec: Name "cards" for a beachy place setting

My sister's wedding is on the North Fork of Long Island. We wanted a beachy themed name tag for each place setting - something personalized that each guest can take home and repurpose. Here's how they came out!

Here's how we made them... First question: how do you get the oyster shells? The answer is to go to a happy hour that offers half off wine and $1 oysters and ask the waiter/waitress to wrap them up for you when you are finished. In our case we had a ton of people we needed to make for so we accumulated the shells over a couple weeks.

The next step is to make sure to soak the shells and scrub off any excess so you have a clean slate to paint on. Then dry the shells very well (we let them sit in the sun for a day) and start painting the shells with white paint. We coated these shells 3 times to ensure you couldn't see through the paint at all. After we let the white paint dry well, we painted the rim of each shell with gold paint.

The next step involved the help of a Cricut machine. We needed each name to be printed in script and used the transfer paper to get the name on the shell. We used a credit card to really get the name to stick to the transfer paper and then the shell. It takes time but they came out perfect. Then, we used resign to coat each shell to make it look shiny and flawless and keep the name in place. Make sure to wear gloves and be careful with this step!

The last step is to let them dry for at least a day before touching them. Here were the finished products... A perfect "name card" for a place setting.
